Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Transparent Ohmu
I don't know what it means to call something a "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Transparent Ohmu," but calling it a "Giant Clear Gummy Insect Collectible" doesn't make much sense either. Fans of manga and anime will, of course, berate me for my unhip unfamiliarity with Japanese legend Hayao Miyazaki, his 1984 film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and its trilobite-lookin' character, Ohmu. But that's fine. I get berated for so many things these days, what's one more?
The Ohmu replica is a collaboration between Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli and sculptor Takayuki Takeya. While not as big as the Ohmu depicted in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, this oddly gelatinous version is about 9" long, which is still pretty big for an insect. Combined with its transparency, the Ohmu figure certainly attracts attention, and will probably unnerve at least half the people who see it blobbing out on your desk or bookshelf.
