Omnom Chocolates hail from Reykjavik, where they're proud to be Iceland's first and only bean-to-bar chocolate, as well as a sweets peddler that uses 100% geothermal energy to produce its chocolatey offerings. To welcome Spring and Easter, Omnom is giving the bars a break and inviting you to have a ball and an egg instead. That is, Lakkris Sea Salt Krunch balls and Mr. Carrots' Easter Treats, egg-shaped Mango-Passion and Milk Chocolate Covered Almonds.
Omnom's Mr. Carrots' Easter Treats Mango-Passion and Milk Chocolate Covered Almonds are a mouthful in more than just name. Maybe I'm taking the low-hanging (mango-passion) fruit here, but I'd liken Mr. Rabbits' Easter Treats to Bjork: a combination of things you wouldn't really think would go together, and indeed when you try them the first couple times they're a bit strange, but ultimately, somehow, they work. Some might call Mr. Rabbits' Easter Treats an acquired taste. Others might just appreciate that they bend the rules of chocolate to suit their own vision and artistry.
One thing everyone can appreciate about Mr. Rabbits Mango Passion Milk Chocolate Covered Almonds is their smooth shape, yellow-orange hue, and slight sheen - the perfect little box of Easter eggs. Packaged, I might add, in the perfect little box. All Omnom chocolate bars and confections beam with vibrant colors and geometric animal drawings that will brighten up any Easter basket, or average day the rest of the year.
Though I haven't tried them myself, another taste-bud-bending Omnon Spring special is their Lakkris Sea Salt Krunch. Crunchy malt balls (oh, I'm there), coated in Icelandic white chocolate (not my first choice, but OK) that's been mixed with sweet licorice powder (ummm) and hand-harvested fresh sea salt. Wow. I'd give it a try, but that's a...ballsy move, Omnom chocolatiers.
Omnom also makes more traditional chocolate bars, with beans from around the world, and in varying percentages of milk and dark. Familiar combos include Mlik Chocolate Caramel, Sea Salted Toffee, and Coffee & Milk.
