Popcorn and wine. They go together like peanut butter and, uh...french fries? Like something I'd probably try it because I dig both of those things individually and they don't have entirely antagonistic flavors, but I'd never really think to put them together on my own. Or for other people if my goal were to collect other people's money and make a profit. But Populence, which at first I thought was some weird take on populace, but which I now realize is Popcorn + Opulence, has an established and seemingly successful corn kernel track record, so they must know something about popcorn eaters' tastes that I don't. And according to them, popcorn eaters will like some Sauvignon Blanc-infused kettle corn.
In collaboration with New Zealand winemaker Kim Crawford, Populence has released puffed pieces in 3-cup, 1-gallon, and 2-gallon portions whose coated finish smacks of gooseberry, passion fruit, and citrus. Pairs well with salads, seafood, vegetarian dishes, and...Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc wine.
Supposedly Populence has a Pinot Noir-essenced popcorn as well, but at printing it did not appear to be available for online purchase. Probably for the best, as eating red wine with your fingers can't possibly bode well for your clothing, or the clothing of any girl you feel up during popcorn consumption.
Muchas danke to Incredible Things.
