About Ebeniste Bentwood Rings

Bentwood Rings get their name from the single piece of wood maker Gill Benzion steams, bends, and glues to craft them. The waste-free process produces a smooth and flawless piece of jewelry that is strong enough to last a lifetime. Rings come in a choice of 18 different woods, literally from A(nigre) to Z(ebrawood). Once a wood is selected and shaped, Benzion can inlay the ring with a variety of materials, including guitar strings, bicycle cables, crushed concrete, gold and other metals, or other woods. Some examples of Bentwood styles the winner can choose from:

The Guitar String Ring. Inlaid with a silver electric guitar string or bronze or gold acoustic guitar string.

The Spaceman Ring. Yep, a band inlaid with a smaller band of crushed stone or crushed iron meteorite.

Diamonds, Opals & Abalone. Bentwood accented with diamond dust, crushed black opals, or abalone.

Rings are available in any size from US 3 to 15. Widths are typically determined by the ring size and inlay type, but generally range from 5mm to 7mm.

Benzion, a professionally-trained cabinet maker, handcrafts all of his Bentwood rings from his studio in Montreal. The process takes about 3 weeks due to extensive drying times required to manipulate and set the woods. Those interested in purchasing a ring can select their wood and inlay choice directly from the Ebeniste Jewelry online store. Benzion encourages ring personalization, so if you have a particular item or material you want incorporated, you can send in your own gem, ash, shell, violin string, or piece of sidewalk for him to work with. Ring pricing generally ranges from $200 to $400.

Ebeniste also creates wood earrings and bracelets.
