You don't have to wait until July this year to need a July WiFi-enabled window air conditioner, but you're going to have to wait until way past July to get one. Thanks to its inconspicuous, inoffensive look, and promises of powerful, energy-efficient, smart operation and easy self-installation, the July AC has a cool 15,000 people on its wait list.

Last I checked, July's chatbot, the dashing Xavier, told me the first available window was August 1-15, 2020.

Still, if you're hot right now and dreading the scorcher they're predicting for Summer 2020, an August arrival date for a 6,000 or 8,000 BTU air conditioner will still probably give you 2 months or so of use this year. And then won't ug up your window with its solid panel customizable front covers over the winter and into next summer, when you'll surely need a July for your May, June, July, August, and maybe September again.

Like most window ACs, the July fits only in single- or double-hung window installations, which sucks for me because the room I need it for has a horizontal slider. Its 6000 BTU and 8000 BTU units are surprisingly the same size at 14.1" x 19.8". Depth is 17.9", only 2.3" of which protrudes into the room inside your home.

Like most smart home tech, July's WiFi connectivity means you can control it from anywhere through the July app, as well as link it to your Amazon Echo or Google Home for voice control.

July says the installation process is "a breeze" thanks to their specially designed AC frame that "eliminates the risk of fall, slashes the time required, and produces very little mess to clean up." And speaking of mess, July owners with pets and allergies also have the option to purchase July's air purifying filters for their air conditioners.
