Divided By Zero Watches
The power of science has helped to create a lot of natural and artificial wonders. But have you ever heard of scientific design before? For its Divided By Zero Alpha and Beta series watches, DBZ brought in mathematicians, architects, and engineers to help create a stylish example of the precision of science poured into the freeflowing nature of design.
The Divided By Zero watch brand was created by a Canadian team with a help of designer Claude Vincent. They wanted to fashion a reliable, quality timepiece at an affordable price, and with unwavering accuracy. Turning their recruited scientists into co-designers, Vincent developed the overall Divided By Zero aesthetic, while the rest of the team worked on how the make the watches technically infallible. DBZ describes the process as "chaos and constant arguing between people of precision and science, each striving for total absolution."
The DBZ Alpha series has a simple, clean, classic look with thoughtful construction and design. A mathematical and academic approach. The Beta series focuses more on timepiece design, with a minimalist foundation and monochromatic color scheme. Every Beta watch--Pascal, Newton, Turing, and Volta--has its own unique character and distinctive features, all supported by the same scientific research and calibrations for function and wear. The watches are built with metal tone changing surfaces, aged coatings, pitch-black sub-dials, multi-layered faces, and hand-cut shapes.
Divided By Zero's Beta series (as well as the Alpha series) is available for pre-order here on Kickstarter through January 29, 2017. Backers will get their choice of watch at around 50% off eventual retail sale price.
